Sunday May 14th i went up to 38 State Brewing. Located just north of C470 and Broadway in an old auto repair place next to a gas station. Its small and nice. Decent tap room and nice patio on the side. They just had their 3 year anniversary and recent expanded. I was there a few times that they ran out of beer to pour because they had a small operation. Closed off in the back room you can look through windows back to where the magic happens. They too have a mug club, but with only 38 spots available.
They had trivia on Wednesday nights. a small local company runs it. My buddy who goes there almost daily has been trying to get a different numbered mug but i guess the wait-list is pretty long to switch numbers or even get one to start with, he is also the dude that asks food trucks for their recipes. (you will get to hear more about him as this blog progresses.)
It was pretty slow when i was there but it was Mother’s day and the day after their 3 year bash, so understandable.
Of the 8 beers they had on tap I tried 8, and then had a few extras
- 38 state IPA– This beer is light on the hops, has some flower taste to it. i guess its won like 4 Gold Medals and a silver within the last year.
- Knackered Knickers Old Ale– a nice 9%. Strong flavor. A bit sour at the end. This is a collab with Backcountry Brewery i think.
- Copper John ESB – for an ESB its not that bitter. i rated it a 4 overall. With a caramel malt to it definitely an old style beer.
- Two Buttes Double IPA- more hoppier then their regular IPA(duh its a double) it still has a good taste without the skunk taste of some doubles.
- Mile 419.99 Rye Pale Ale- I am not always a fan of Ryes but this one actually has good flavors besides the rye. and with the name making fun of the Colorado Mile Marker 420 being stolen all the time whats not to like. This one won a silver medal recently too.
- Brown Porter- this one won a Bronze last year. Sweet English brown porter. It had some good taste for sure
- Mint Julep ESB– Left over from the anniversary party the night before I had a small taster of this, definitely interesting. Mint after taste, light upfront.
- Chocolate Bourbon Stout- Was my favorite they had. i had 3 or 4 full pours of this one. also it was 11% but you couldnt taste it from the other rich flavors
Definitely worth the trip to 38 State if you are able to stop by for a pint. Plus while I was there they had a Untapped ticker on the bottom of their digital menu and i showed up a few times while i was there. Made me feel special.
